FAQs
How old does my child need to be in a KKMT show?
Campers start at at 6 during the summer. During the school year for our Friday night program, it is recommended for students to be age 8 and up. Often, we are asked if there is an age limit. While the majority of our students tend to range from ages 9 to 12, we also have dedicated Kismet Kids who continue with us all through high school, while others "age out" of the program and move on to become KKMT volunteers and staff members!
Does my child need any theatre experience?
No! The beauty of this program is that no experience is necessary! Whether a seasoned performer, or a first-time actor, we are an ensemble production company and each role is equally important to our success!
Is my child guaranteed a role?
Yes! All kids will sing, dance, and have a speaking role! There are plenty of parts for everyone...older kids, younger kids, girls and boys.
What if my child is stage shy?
KKMT is the perfect environment to help even the shyest of children feel good about their participation. KKMT is dedicated to providing a non-competitive, nurturing, and fun musical theatre space for all participants.
Is my child guaranteed a singing solo?
Yes! It is our goal for EVERY child to have a "name" part with lines, to get as much stage time as possible, and to have an opportunity for singing solo parts.
Do new students have a chance of getting a lead role?
Absolutely! At Kismet Kids, we believe that "sharing is caring"! Parts are assigned by our director, Laura Grissom, and EVERY child is given the opportunity to "try out" for any and all parts they are interested in. It is important to us that children learn to take turns and be gracious and support one another. If they don't get a part they want in a production, they know "there's always another show"!
What do KKMT students do during summer camp?
Summer camp is the best! In addition to rotating between rehearsing throughout the day (singing, dancing, and acting), we also have time for other activities such as outdoor fun on the playground, arts and crafts, creative theatre games, and dress up theme days! Children are placed into small cohorts by age, and will remain with their peer group for various activities throughout the day. At the end of the camp, we celebrate with a cast party and performances for family and friends.
Are there volunteer opportunities available at KKMT?
